Ken: Johnny and I worked on this during lockdown in Summer 2020. Again since Cat couldn’t be with us in person, I sampled her vocals and Johnny’s from older tracks so it could be like she was here in NYC singing with Johnny. After mixing an early version with Daniel, I asked Kip of The Natvral and Pains of Being Pure at Heart to play guitar on it. He sent us this crazy awesome version where he turned it into a Weezer song. Though we didn’t go that route, it cracked open the song for me. We really went in and re-thought it from the ground up, all while keeping most of Kip’s lead guitar parts. It took ages to get the arrangement right, but as usual Kiri killed it.
Johnny: I wanted to make this song all joy. Pure happiness and pure bliss. Ken has a great ear for parallel universes living inside one song; the dark co-existing with something lighter, perhaps? This song is about that moment you realize you’re in love. Nothing anyone does or says is going to change your mind. You don’t even question how long that moment will last. You just live in that moment during this song.
Cat: As a band, we’ve spent so so much time on darker themes. It’s where we’ve been most comfortable. Songs like this feel very vulnerable and risky, and I love that we’re moving in this direction. We’ve been together for years now, and it’s quite something to see how each of us has influenced the others in the band. What Johnny’s done here is going to show up in our work more, I can feel it.
